Covid-19 testing units available to support local response

Testing is a vital part in our fight against the spread of Covid-19 and to help reduce the rate of people contracting the virus, your help is still needed as much as ever. You can get a test at one of six testing centres by booking an appointment in advance. If you are showing any of the following symptoms of Covid-19, however mild, you need to get tested as soon as you can: A high temperature A new, continuous cough A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Funeral will take place today, Saturday 17 April 2021 at 3pm in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. The Funeral Service will begin with a National Minute’s Silence at 3pm. The service will be preceded by a ceremonial procession inside the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Universal Covid testing for all

Everyone in England is now eligible for free, rapid Lateral Flow Device (LFD) tests to continue the fight against Covid. They should be taken twice weekly and are for people who do not have symptoms.

Sheffield’s businesses reopened their doors this week in a welcome return to trading, with many people taking the opportunity to visit local shops, hairdressers, get back to the gym or outdoor sports and enjoy al fresco dining and drinks at their favourite restaurants and bars.

From Monday outdoor gatherings (including in private gardens) of either 6 people (the Rule of 6) or 2 households will be allowed, making it easier for friends and families to meet outside.

On 23rd March it will be a year since the announcement of the UK’s first Covid-19 lockdown and no-one imagined the dramatic impact this would have on our lives and the tragedy that the virus would bring. Next week we are marking its one-year anniversary by remembering those who we have lost, thanking people across the city for everything that they have done to protect others from the virus and showing our gratitude to those working in the NHS, the care sector and other frontline key worker roles who have shown true steel spirit.

Sheffield Covid testing sites – snow update

Snow is causing significant disruption for testing sites and for people getting to these sites for their tests. At all sites, the number of people getting tested is down considerably. When a site closes due to the weather conditions, people with existing bookings will receive a text directing them to alternative testing sites that are still open.

The NHS test and trace national booking system is reaching capacity. This is due to laboratory testing reaching national capacity on the day. If you have COVID-19 symptoms and you need to book a test, please continue to do so. However, you may experience a delay in being able to book a test using the national system. If you can’t get a test on the day, please try again later or try the next day. Please listen to the guidance you are provided at the point of arranging a booking. Testing remains a vital part in our fight against the spread of Covid-19 in our city and to help reduce the rate of people contracting the virus.
