Under The Stars present All Our Bands

‘All Our Bands’ will showcase original musical performances from up to 50 artists with a range of learning disabilities.

Under the Stars began in 2007 with a nightclub aimed at people with disabilities and their friends. The founders felt that there was a need for a proper club-night for disabled people and their friends that was genuine and empowering rather than tokenistic. This nightclub was so successful that the event became a regular fixture in the calendar of Sheffield’s disabled community.

In 2010 Under the Stars began running music workshops aimed at the nightclub attendees and other disabled people in the Sheffield region. What was once a small weekly group has now grown to four weekly sessions, spawning many bands and musical collectives including The Stars Band, The Clubland Detectives and The Sparkle Sistaz.

‘All Our Bands’ is an opportunity for the public to come and listen to the many musical flavours that have emerged from this vibrant musical community. It represents many years of work and dedication from the musicians often overcoming physical and mental barriers in order to play and create music.

Ruth Parrot Under The Stars General Manager said;

‘I’m very excited and proud of this event. ‘All our Bands’ represents a huge amount of hard work and commitment from our learners. It’s brilliant that they have produced so much original material to share with the public. We are really pleased to have a partnership with The Leadmill who totally understand the needs of our performers and attendees.’
