Chief Executive, Kate Josephs recognised in Queen's Birthday Honours

Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, Kate Josephs has been awarded CB for Public Service in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2021.

It was announced in Her Majesty's Birthday Honours List today, that Josephs, Laterly Director General, Cabinet Office for Public Service has been awarded Companion status, The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, for the exemplary public service she had given.

The Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2021 demonstrates the extraordinary efforts made by individuals in all four nations of the United Kingdom during the pandemic.

The List includes those who have worked throughout the crisis, putting others before themselves - from caring neighbours, frontline and community heroes, to those supporting the UK recovery.

Kate joined the authority in January 2021, before which she was Director General in the Number 10 COVID Taskforce, and brought with her a wealth of public sector experience, from senior leadership roles in Government both in the UK and United States.

Speaking of the award, Kate Josephs said:

"I am humbled and immensely proud to have been recognised in Her Majesty's Birthday Honours. It has and continues to be a privilege to dedicate my professional life to public service.

"Everything I have ever been able to achieve as a public servant has been the result of a team effort, working with incredible, dedicated and committed colleagues, alongside the support of my family. I am so grateful to all of them and proud now to build on my career in national government and serve the people of the great city of Sheffield."

Councillor Terry Fox, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: 

"I want to congratulate Kate on this huge honour. This award clearly demonstrates her experience, commitment and people centred approach to public service and that is exactly what we need here in Sheffield. We're so proud and grateful to have Kate at the head of this organisation. 

"As we continue our recovery from the pandemic, we are refocusing our priorities and plans to meet the needs of the city and our residents, and I know that with Kate's no nonsense and passionate attitude, we will achieve great things. I'm really excited about the future and working together for Sheffield."
