Sheffield City Council has adopted a new strategy to help make the city a leading destination for visitors across Europe, boosting the local economy and opportunities for Sheffield residents and businesses.
Community events back and better than ever in Sheffield
Sheffield’s exciting events calendar is back in full swing, with the city’s free community events attracting record numbers and showcasing the best in family entertainment.
Last weekend saw the return of Weston Park May Fayre – delivered in association with the University of Sheffield – which saw more than 8,000 visitors flock to Weston Park to enjoy a diverse range of vibrant entertainment acts, including fire breathing, sword tricks, live music, craft stalls, quirky gifts, face painting, food and drinks and plenty more
At the beginning of May during the bank holiday weekend, Graves Park’s Country Show also saw record numbers of attendees, more than 10,000, who came out to enjoy the birds of prey display, dog show, extreme mountain bike demo, woodland craft activities and family fun fair to name just a few.
Cllr Martin Smith, Chair of the Economic Development Committee at Sheffield City Council said: “It’s clear that local people and families have really missed these free and exciting events, so it’s brilliant that we can once again come together and enjoy them.
"We work really hard to bring a wide range of entertainment, ensuring all our communities are represented. This helps to unite people and showcases the diversity that makes Sheffield such a great place to live and visit.
“Working with partners, like the University of Sheffield, we have the best talent on show that really makes these days memorable for everyone. It’s fantastic to see and we’ve got plenty more to come throughout the year.”
The University of Sheffield provided street performers for the Weston Park May Fayre event through its Made Together programme.
Vanessa Toulmin, Director of City and Culture at the University of Sheffield said: “It was great to be back at the Fayre and working with Sheffield City Council on an incredible day of performances, with over 8,000 people of all ages and diverse backgrounds enjoying the family fun. A great example of how our Made Together programme brings cultural vibrancy to our city and region.”

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Show will be held in Norfolk Heritage Park on Thursday 2 June, from 1pm to 10pm, with the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon and ceremony taking place at 9.45pm.
The event is free with lots of fun for everyone including The Vander Brothers Super Heroes Space Wheel Show, a 1950’s fancy dress competition, a children’s craft tent, Cirque Du Bleurgh: fire juggling, stilt walking and giant bubbles, Sheffield Sea Cadets display, a community stage with contemporary and traditional music, an artisan craft marquee, local heritage displays, a board games corner, The ‘Tent of Mystery’ and ‘Professor John’s Flea Circus’, family fun fair, food stalls, trade stands and exhibitors.
