COVID-19 Markets closure

Outside of the Moor Market

UPDATED 28.03.20

Moor Market closed until further notice

The Moor Market is closing its doors to members of the public from 4pm on 28th March, until further notice.

Government restrictions, that were put in place this week to protect people from the spread of coronavirus, saw many traders forced to close their stalls. Those selling groceries and essential items were able to continue trading and Sheffield City Council committed to keeping the market open for as long as any trader is operating.

Several stalls continued to stay open for customers, but have now all taken the difficult decision to close until further notice.

With no stalls opening after tomorrow, the market building will be closed to the public.

Richard Eyre, City Centre Manager at Sheffield City Council, said: “We have never seen ourselves in this situation before and our traders have had some tough decisions to make. We are extremely grateful to those who have continued to provide such a valuable service to people in Sheffield at this difficult time.

“In Sheffield we’re really proud of our local, independent businesses and I know this situation is hitting them very hard. During this period no traders will pay rent and we will support our businesses however we can.

“The market is a lifeline for many people who shop here on a weekly basis and I want to reassure them that once it is safe to do so, we will be back and we will keep investing in this important local hub.”

The Council is liaising with traders who may want to continue working on a delivery basis. Updates will be available on the Moor Market website and social media accounts highlighting which businesses are operating.
