Have your say on the Local Plan in online consultation

Sheffield sky line

Online consultation events will start next week giving local people the opportunity to provide their views and feedback on what they would like to be included in the Sheffield Local Plan.

The Sheffield Plan will be a guide to development in the city until 2038 and will set out the blueprint for the growth and improvement of the local economy, housing and transport system.

This consultation, which will start on the 1 September and run for six weeks, will gather views on what people would like to be included in the Plan, which will cover areas such as addressing the housing needs of Sheffield’s growing population, tacking climate change and the future of the city’s high-street, parks and attractions.

In preparation for the consultation, and to give people time to find out more about the aims of the Plan and the choices available for Sheffield, an ‘Issues and Options’ document is available and can be downloaded here.

The online consultation drop-in sessions will be held via Zoom and will include a short presentation explaining the Issues and Options document and the local plan process, followed by a Q&A session. Questions will be submitted via the Q&A function in Zoom Webinar.

Councillor Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Transport and Sustainability at Sheffield City Council, said:

“This consultation is an important opportunity to have your say on how you think our city should be developed in the future. The consultation will focus on our vision for Sheffield in years to come and will cover wide ranging issues from housing and jobs to creating new communities.

“These big decisions will shape the future of Sheffield. It’s important that we hear from as many local people as possible, this is your city and we need to know what is most important to you and how you would like to see it develop.”

The sessions will be chaired by the Head of Planning or the Local Plan Service Manager and there will be a panel of officers from the Council’s Forward and Area Planning and Transport Policy team who will answer questions.

Basic knowledge of Zoom is required to take part in the consultation events. The sessions are on a drop-in basis with a simple registration process of entering participant name and email address.

People can join the Zoom consultation sessions at:

Questions about the Issues and Options document can be submitted in advance of the sessions, and throughout the consultation period (1 September to 13 October), by emailing sheffieldplan@sheffield.gov.uk.

All questions may not be answered during the sessions, but answers to questions submitted will be compiled in a Frequently Asked Questions document on the Council’s website.
