Sheffield is transforming with fantastic regeneration projects reshaping the city centre, turning it into a vibrate and exciting place to live, work and play. The result will make the city a must-visit location for anyone looking to shop, eat, drink, and enjoy their day.
Here is your chance to get involved in tackling climate change in Sheffield
Communities across Sheffield are to be given an opportunity to do their bit in helping the city combat the threat of climate change.
Sheffield City Council has agreed to add its name to those who have signed the Local Climate Bond Pledge and, as part of that promise, we will be offering people and businesses the chance to invest in projects that help to tackle climate change.
Expected to launch within the next 18 months, the Local Climate Bond will give residents and businesses the chance to invest a minimum of £5 into projects headed up by the Council with the aim of working towards the city’s decarbonisation goals and tackle the impact of climate change.
Those who do invest, could see a return paid as interest on their initial investment.
Cllr Tom Hunt, leader of Sheffield City Council and chair of the Strategy and Resources Policy Committee, said:
"Sheffield is a global, green and growing city and tackling climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face. Local Climate Bonds are a fantastic way for the Council to work with communities across Sheffield to raise investment for projects that help us to tackle climate change. We will be learning from other places that have introduced climate bonds, and I look forward to seeing this develop."
The impact of our changing climate is already being seen and felt around the world with more extreme weather events being reported. In Sheffield, the Council has already made progress in reducing the cities carbon footprint, but more needs to be done.
The issuing of the Local Climate Bond, which delivers a return on investments, is open to both members of the public and Sheffield businesses, will allow investors to make a difference and help the city reach its climate goals.
