An Opportunity Sheffield networking event for women

This International Women’s Day, we’re showcasing some of the organisations and projects that provide help and support to communities of women in Sheffield.

Opportunity Sheffield is the Employment and Skills Service in Sheffield City Council. This team helps unemployed and economically inactive people into work and provide training and career progression opportunities for those already in employment.

As part of their role, they work with Voluntary and Community Sector organisations across the city, particularly in underserviced communities, to support those who need additional support to find a job.

One of their delivery partners, The Employers Forum, is currently working on a targeted project designed to meet the employability needs of Pakistani Women living in Sheffield.

Residents from across the city can attend the Shipshape Centre in Sharrow to receive 1:1 keyworker support from an experienced employment support advisor. They can work with participants to build their confidence, improve employability skills and help them embark on a new career.

Since getting underway in December 2023, 20 women from Sheffield’s Pakistani community have already registered for support. Initially funded to March 2025, the project will aim to move at least 63 participants into work.

This project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
