Sheffield City Council is launching the Lord Mayor Awards, recognising the amazing contribution of people and organisations that are at the heart of Sheffield.

The Lord Mayor Award celebrates those who have made a significant contribution to life in Sheffield, are a leader in their field or have helped put the city on the map. From community leaders, innovative businesses, volunteers and cultural trailblazers to those quietly helping and supporting those around them day to day.

This is also a chance to recognise an ‘unsung hero’ with a personal thank you from the City of Sheffield’s Lord Mayor.

From September 2024 to November 2024, the public can submit their own nominations for the six categories in the Lord Mayor Awards. The awards are for individuals or organisations that live, work or are based in Sheffield.

Who can nominate?

Anyone can make a nomination, as long as they’re not a relative or partner of the nominee or nominees and there are no limits to how many people you can nominate in each category.

What categories are there?

  • Outstanding Contribution to Local Community
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion of the Arts, Music and Culture
  • Outstanding Contribution to Education
  • Outstanding Contribution to Local Sport

Who decides the winners?

The panel, including representatives from Sheffield United community group, Sheffield Wednesday community foundation and Hendersons Relish, will meet to finalise the winners in the new year and the winners will receive their awards at an event in the Town Hall in March 2025.

Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Cllr Jayne Dunn, said:

“The Lord Mayor Awards will bring together our diverse communities to celebrate each other and the wonderful people in Sheffield.

“When I was appointed Lord Mayor, I pledged to make sure that the achievements of our residents and the dedication they show to the city is given a platform, and these awards will do just that.

"I can’t wait to hear more about the brilliant work people across Sheffield contribute to our city and to welcome them to the Town Hall in celebration of them.”
