Rainbows appear outside hospitals to thank key workers

Thank you and rainbow painted on road outside hospital

A number of rainbows have appeared on roads outside the city’s hospitals overnight as a thank you to key workers for helping to keep us all safe and well during Covid 19.

Working throughout the night, the council’s highways contractor Amey applied rainbow artwork and wording to the main routes outside key hospital sites, visible to those continuing to make essential journeys.

As a big thank you to all the workers who have continued to carry out their roles during this difficult time, the new artwork provides a colourful reminder of just how grateful we all are to those supporting our fight against the pandemic.

Many other UK cities have been showing creativity with artwork popping up on roads and buildings across the country and Sheffield is proud to be part of a national appreciation for workers.

Council Leader, Julie Dore said:

“In recent weeks many people in Sheffield have continued to deliver key services across a number of areas to ensure that we can all cope with the impact of Covid 19 as safely as possible.

“Key workers across a variety of sectors have shown their true steel spirit by delivering essential services that we all require. And from health care workers to supermarket staff, we remain incredibly grateful to all those who are working throughout this pandemic.

“The rainbow artwork has become such a recognised symbol of gratitude in recent weeks and I am personally incredibly proud of every single individual working hard during these testing times.

“Whilst the majority of us continue to social distance and stay at home to save lives, we must remember and appreciate those working around the clock to help us overcome this situation together.”

The rainbow markings have been applied at four locations; Herries Road, Whitham Road, Glossop Road and Barnsley Road.
