Cllr Denise Fox of Sheffield Community Councillors, said:

“It is with great sadness that we learned this weekend of the loss of our colleague and friend Cllr Paul Wood.

“Paul was a dedicated and respected member of the Council and I’m sure colleagues from across the chamber and officers in the Council will share my sadness at this news and will miss him.

“He first became a Councillor for Richmond ward in 2014 and then again in Woodhouse ward in 2016 and he continued to represent the ward and its residents until his passing. During his time at the Council he was recognised as a pragmatic, supportive and level-headed person who was always open to collaboration to achieve the best outcomes for the people of Sheffield and a champion of council housing and of culture and the arts.

“Paul was a true local politician, getting recognised by the Queen for his work and being awarded the British Empire Medal. I was fortunate enough to be at the ceremony and I have to say his work for charity knew no bounds.

“My thoughts are with Paul’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Sheffield City Council will be flying the Union flag at half-mast in memory of Cllr Paul Wood.
