Popular freshly made food and organic coffee chain, Pret A Manger, has returned to Sheffield city centre with a brand new shop that opened its doors this weekend. Located in Sheffield City Council’s award-winning Heart of the City redevelopment project, the opening marks the latest fantastic addition to the city centre.
Sheffield City Centre Cycle Hub opens in Heart of the City
Cyclists coming into the Heart of the City will now be able to leave their bike in a safe and secure storage area while they go to work, shop and enjoy everything the city centre has to offer.
Opened on Monday 18 November, cyclists coming into Sheffield will have somewhere to store their bike with the new hub having room for 140 standard cycles, plus ten spaces for cargo bikes, tandems and tricycles. The new destination, located within the multi-storey car park on Charter Row, will increase secure bike storage across the city centre and offer people more choice in how they get around.
The opening of the new facility forms part of Sheffield City Council’s Connecting Sheffield: City Centre project and will link in perfectly with new and improved cycle routes. The project will also see other forms of transport improved, including walking and wheeling routes and increased bus priority, giving people a choice in how they get around not only the city centre but the wider city as a whole.
Cllr Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “The opening of the City Centre Cycle hub marks a fantastic day in our ambitious plans to give people more choice in how they travel. There are many people who choose to cycle into and out of the city centre on a regular basis and having somewhere they can safely store their bike when they are at work, shopping, or meeting friends, will be a game changer.
“Sheffield is transforming, it’s changing into an cleaner, greener, thriving city offering people a fantastic place to work, live and enjoy. Whether people choose to come into the centre by car, bike or on foot, we now have the facilities to cater for you.”
Russell Cutts of Russell’s Bicycle Shed is the operator of the City Centre Cycle Hub, he said: “As more people decide to cycle into the city centre for the ease and convenience it offers it is critically important that quality facilities are provided for them to store their bicycles securely and in a dry safe environment, we believe the City Centre Hub and the rest of our network will give people the confidence and option to ride more frequently and provide them with a secure, safe environment to park their bicycle.
“We are looking forward to welcoming all types of cyclist to the hub.”
The City Centre Cycle Hub is now open and will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for as long as people subscribed, the subscription includes access to all other hubs operated by Russell’s Bicycle Shed.
