At the Education, Children & Families Committee meeting yesterday (Tuesday 3rd September), it was recommended the permanent closure of the nursery – based at Springfield School near the city centre - take place, pending the four-week public consultation.
There's still time to join in the Festival of Fun
There is still time to book a place on the excellent range of Children’s University Festival of Fun activities this summer – but places are being snapped up quickly.
The Children’s University Festival of Fun is back for an action-packed 10th edition this summer.
It is a programme of free taster activities for children and young people, running right across the summer holidays. It allows them to try something new and perhaps discover a new passion.
Fun-filled activities this summer include art, science, dance, drama, gaming, Lego, sport, circus skills, study support, the environment, first aid, fire station visits and more.
For a full list of activities, head over to the Welcome to Sheffield website.
They are accessed with a CU Passport to Learning – available from the city’s libraries – with all activities free at the point of access.
Parents and carers can also try new things with their children. And as the passports are purchased through the city’s libraries, there is also a chance to join in with some of the other fun summer initiatives such as the Summer Reading Challenge to maximise your child’s learning potential while they are off from school.

Cllr Dawn Dale, Chair of the Education, Children’s and Families Committee, said:
“There is a vast range of activities available to school-age children as part of the Children’s University Festival of Fun, which gives them a window to try something new and exciting.
“There’s still time for parents and carers to get children involved, and we are sure there will be something for everyone on the extensive list of activities.”
Sakina Kingswood, Assistant Project Officer for Sheffield City Council responsible for delivery of the scheme, said:
“This is a city-wide initiative, within libraries, parks and community centres. There is something relatively near to most people and the choice of venue makes it even easier to attend. Events are spread across the days of the week and at different times as well as the locations used, to make it accessible for as many people as possible.”
