Tramlines Festival reveals phase 1 line up

Sheffield’s biggest ever part, Tramlines Festival, has announced the first wave of acts to play its 11th edition from Friday 19th – Sunday 21st July at Hillsborough Park. Headliners include Courteeners, Two Door Cinema Club, and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, plus a slew of other top talent in the form of Manic Street Preachers, Rag’n’Bone Man, Doves, Miles Kane, Happy Mondays, Peter Hook & The Light, Lewis Capaldi, Shame, Casey Lowry, The Rifles, Sea Girls, and Everly Pregnant Brothers.

With a capacity of 30,000 and a site spanning four stages of music, a soon-to-be-announced comedy line up, an improved family friendly area and dozens of the finest street food traders, Tramlines 2019 is already shaping up to top its mammoth 10th birthday bash last year. Tramlines Festival grew to dizzy new heights in 2018 as it staged its biggest line up to date and for the first time was held over one greenfield site on Hillsborough Park (view the aftermovie).

Staying true to its roots of showcasing genre-busting acts from the internationally acclaimed to the hottest new talent, it featured the likes of Stereophonics, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Craig David, De La Soul, and Stefflon Don, alongside The Big Moon, Bang Bang Romeo, Rae Morris and Teleman. Its credibility as a must-visit music festival has soared and shows no sign of descending anytime soon.

I think we have some great artists this year that span generations. Courteeners, Chic, Rag’n’Bone Man, The Manics, Miles Kane are all on my list to catch over the weekend and there are more to come too, including, as usual, some great Sheffield Favourites and new talent. I can’t wait for July, it’s going to be awesome and I hope everyone will join us for Sheffield’s Biggest Party.”

At Tramlines 2019, crowds will be in indie, rock and disco heaven when it welcomes three heavy hitting headliners: Courteeners, Two Door Cinema Club, and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers. Expect crowd-pleasing tracks such as ‘Not Nineteen Forever’, ‘What You Know’ and ‘Everybody Dance’ respectively, when these acts take to the Tramlines Main Stage.

Other not-to-be-missed performances come from Wales’ finest, the Manic Street Preachers with an impressive 13-albums worth of material; Rag’n’Bone Man with his unique, soulful tones that appear in a fresh new setting on latest single ‘Giant’ with Calvin Harris; co-frontman of the Last Shadow Puppets, Miles Kane, and the highly anticipated return of indie outfit Doves after a nine year hiatus.

Manchester is well-represented at Tramlines this year with performances from Madchester scene leaders, Happy Mondays, and Peter Hook & The Light performing New Order’s ‘Technique’ and ‘Republic’ live plus Joy Division material.

Brits Critics’ Choice Award nominee Lewis Capaldi will make his Tramlines debut while Sheffield’s own Everly Pregnant Brothers make a return with their hilarious spoof covers. Rounding up this initial announcement are hedonistic South-London four-piece, Shame, who are still riding the waves of their fantastic first album ‘Songs Of Praise’; Radio 1 Artist Of The Week Casey Lowry, the Paul Weller mentored The Rifles, and BBC Sound Of 2019 nominated Sea Girls.

More than just a quality music festival, Tramlines 2019 will feature a side-splitting comedy line up programmed by the Leadmill, and its Into The Trees family-friendly area will return with even more activities and entertainment than before. Further announcements for all areas of the festival will be made over the coming weeks.

Whilst the Tramlines line up gets bigger each year, it remains seriously good value for money. Tickets are now on fourth tier and priced at £65.50 plus booking fee for all three days. VIP upgrade tickets are available for an additional £50 granting access to the private VIP area situated right next to the main stage with private bars, food stalls and toilets.
