Useful information for the Christmas period
Between Christmas and New Year the Council only runs essential services. See below for information about the festive period.
Community Helpline
During the holiday period, our Community Helpline will be open 9am to 5pm on:
- Friday 27 December
- Monday 30 December
- Tuesday 31 December
It will be operating a reduced service. Only emergency applications for support will be processed.

Emergency and out of hours
Call 0114 273 4567 over Christmas and New Year for help and support for:
- Repairs and lift emergencies
- Children’s safeguarding (Emergency Duty Team number: 0114 2734855. Between Fri 27 and Monday 31 the Safeguarding Hub and Children’s Social Care will operating as normal)
- Adult social care
- Homeless service

Bin collections
Sheffield City Council and Veolia are advising residents that bin collection days will change for some households over the festive period.
Residents whose bin collection day is normally on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday will be affected, with no collections taking place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Howden House
Howden House will be closed to the public from the 25th of December until 2nd of January.
Roads and pavements
Amey’s Operational Control Room remains open 24 hours a day all year round. It is still possible to report a problem as normal during the Christmas period.
