Waste collection service update, COVID-19
All waste and recycling services are currently operating as normal. However it is expected that services, including bin collections, will be affected by the coronavirus.
The latest updates on bin collections will be shared on the council's website.
The council understands the importance of household bin collections, even more so at a time when many people are ill at home and when public health is a most critical concern.
If and when a reduction in the workforce means all waste services cannot be provided, black bin and clinical waste collections will be prioritised.
Depending on the extent to which the workforce is reduced, other services may have to be temporarily suspended, including bulky waste collections. Wherever possible blue and brown recycling bin collections will continue, however it is possible that these too may be affected.
The situation with the coronavirus is changing on a daily basis, and communication is vitally important to ensure that you as residents, are kept informed of any changes to the services you receive.
The best place to find up to date information about your bin collections is on the ‘Bin collection and service alerts’ page.
If and when services are affected, daily updates will also be issued on social media and also through the local media.
Waste from households displaying coronavirus symptoms
The guidance from Public Health England is that any personal waste (such as used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths from households which are showing symptoms of the Coronavirus, can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags.
These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste.
This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your black bin.
All other household waste can be disposed of as normal.
