Youth Work Week: "Sheffield's Community Youth Services are having a massive impact all across the city."

This week (4-10th November 2024) is National Youth Work Week - an annual celebration of all things youth work.

Here in Sheffield, we will be a celebrating the city's incredible young residents and their achievements, as well as the dedicated youth workers and services making a real impact to the lives of young residents.

Earlier this week Sheffield City Council hosted the Youth Awards, which recognised and celebrated some of the city's young residents who go above and beyond. Find out more on Sheff News.

The week also offers an opportunity to celebrate the individuals, services, partners and organisations doing great work for young residents, to help them thrive in all they do.

Sheffield City Council's Community Youth Services team are making a massive impact to the lives of young people.

Through work like the Dark Nights programme, an initiative that has seen more than 40 dedicated sessions being put around the period of Bonfire Night and Halloween. These sessions not only help young residents enjoy the season with lots of activities in the evenings on offer, but also teaches them about the dangers of fireworks and much more - ensuring a safer darker nights period for all.

The team are also working with partners across the city to identify some of the city’s vulnerable young residents and to teach different organisations across the city – including schools and parents/guardians as well as businesses – about harm and risks outside of the home, like grooming and trafficking.

With this year's National Youth Work focusing on creativity, a range of sessions are being put on across the city to help young residents engage with the arts.
