The Blades will celebrate with the city on Thursday 11 May. After their 2 – 0 win against West Brom gained them automatic promotion, Sheffield United will be celebrating with the city with a victory parade on Thursday 11 May between 5:30pm-8pm.  

After another busy winter period, the council’s highways contractor will soon close the doors on the salt domes for another year.  This year saw the first significant snowfall in Sheffield for several years, when the city experienced between 10 and 18 inches of snow in some parts of the city over a 3-day period in early March.

Named as one of 10 iconic UK locations that will be ‘Lighting up the Nation’, Sheffield Town Hall will come alive with projections, lasers and illuminations as part of the Coronation celebrations and will be broadcast to the world, live from Windsor on three separate occasions.

An unveiling ceremony of Sheffield’s new permanent Covid Memorial sculpture took place today, led by the Leader of Sheffield City Council, Councillor Terry Fox and Lord Mayor, Councillor Sioned-Mair Richards. The unique memorial, located in Balm Green Gardens, was commissioned by Sheffield City Council, designed by George King of George King Architects and made in Sheffield by Steel Line Limited.

The Council has successfully bid for over £8 million of government funding, through two different schemes, that will improve energy efficiency and the warmth of homes in the city that are most in need of heating upgrades.

Sheffield City Council is making great strides to transform travel in the city, with a number of exciting projects underway creating high-quality, convenient and safer routes for cycling, walking and public transport.

To support more people to make the switch to cleaner, electric vehicles (EVs), and to help reduce air pollution in Sheffield, the Council, working with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), is installing 48 brand-new electric vehicle chargers to Sheffield.

Almost two years on from the successful launch of the first electric van trial in Sheffield, the Council is going a step further to support local businesses, charities, and organisations by introducing fully insured vehicles as part of the popular electric van trial.

Sheffield city centre’s brand-new public space, Pound’s Park, is set to open early to the public on 3 April, so that the new park can be enjoyed over the Easter weekend and school holidays.

Some people who are on Universal Credit automatically assume that they are getting the Council Tax Support that they are entitled to, so we urge them to please check this with either the council or Citizens Advice Sheffield.

A bus gate is being introduced on Arundel Gate from Monday, 20 March 2023 which will reduce the number of vehicles travelling along the stretch of road.

New colourful bin wraps can be spotted on litter bins across the city, designed by local artist, Luke Horton.

Due to the rising cost of energy across the UK, from Saturday 1 April 2023, a new tariff for Sheffield City Council owned rapid EV charging points will be introduced, to make EV charging points across Sheffield more sustainable for the Council.
