Drivers are being encouraged to take more care around roadworks as Streets Ahead continues its programme of resurfacing across the city.
Flooding update - Moonshine Lane
As a result of a burst water pipe in Moonshine Lane, Southey, this morning, which caused localised flooding to nearby roads and a small number of properties, we are working with our partners to support those affected.
Moonshine Lane remains closed, and people should avoid the area if possible whilst the remaining water subsides. A number of footpaths in nearby Longley Park have also been temporarily closed due to surface water.
Yorkshire Water are working to restore water supplies as quickly as possible to the properties affected in the nearby vicinity. All properties should have their water restored by the end of the day, today.
We have deployed a considerable number of officers on site to ensure homes are visited to provide any support required.
Once the flooding subsides, the council’s highways contractor, Amey, will assess the damage to the road and make any necessary repairs. In the meantime, Amey will work alongside Yorkshire Water to clear residual debris and silt.
With freezing temperatures forecast, Amey will be gritting additional roads around the nearby estate tonight, impacted by the excess water.
Any residents with concerns should contact Yorkshire Water in the first instance on 0345 1 24 24 24. If people have issues with water in their property, they should contact the council’s housing team on 0114 293 0000.
